The Awakened Hygienist

For as long as I can remember, TEACHING has been my passion. I remember playing school even in the summertime with the neighborhood kids. But one day during my senior year of high school, a trip to my dental hygienist shifted my career path.

She expressed to me how rewarding of a career dental hygiene is, and all the perks that come with it! I left that appointment knowing someday I would be a Dental Hygienist!

After spending 5 years as a dental assistant and working on my pre-requisites, I was accepted into Phoenix College's Dental Hygiene Program. I graduated in 2002 and have been working in a clinical setting ever since.

At first, everything is amazing and most of us new grads are living the dream! We are helping patients with their oral health needs, performing our duties as a hygienist, all while smiling when we see our pay checks!

But after a few years something happens. We begin to get burned out. We feel static; dormant in our J-O-B. We used to love this work. We wanted to volunteer after graduation and felt like we would do this job without even getting paid because we LOVE it so much! What happened?

Because of the multi-passionate skills I have accumulated over the past decade, I have applied this knowledge into my daily treatment when working with patients and being a leader in my office.

During the typical dental hygiene appointment, we discuss brushing & flossing, perform treatments such as x-rays, periodontal charting, prophy, periodontal maintenance, SRP etc - you know all of this...

Because of the skills and knowledge I have gained over the years

as a Mind Body Wellness Practitioner,

I am able to expand my understanding of patients health beyond what we know in Dentistry.
